Brief on Central FSSAI License
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is the governing body responsible for overseeing and regulating food-related businesses in India. Its primary mission is to ensure food safety and hygiene by reducing food adulteration and preventing the sale of substandard food products.
Food businesses involved in manufacturing, storage, distribution, or retailing of food products must obtain a Central Food License. Depending on the type and scale of operations, businesses may be issued either a state license or a central license.
The Central FSSAI License is specifically designed for businesses that meet certain criteria outlined by the Central Licensing Authority. If a food business operator is engaged in multiple food-related activities with varying eligibility requirements at the same location, they can opt for a single, highest-tier license that covers all activities based on the eligibility criteria.
This license is issued to businesses involved in food or related items intended for human consumption and mandates compliance with specific rules and regulations set by the FSSAI. In India, food businesses are required to choose between a State FSSAI License and a Central FSSAI License, depending on their nature and scope of operations.
